Samsona's RWD-H Dogbox

The universal RWD-H gearboxes enjoy great popularity due to their robust and simple construction. It is available in 4, 5 and 6 gear versions and can withstand even the ordeal of 1000 Nm and more. The structure of the RWD-H gearbox is very similar to the sequential RWD-S, but is shifted in H mode. The entire gear unit including the housing is completely CNC milled, which means that the 4-speed version weighs just 23 kg.

The production and distribution of Samsonas is in Lithuania, therefore spare parts are available within a short time and extremely inexpensive. The optional gear lever is completely CNC milled. Sensors are used by KA and Variohm (both suppliers to Formula 1 and Moto GP).

The price includes an adapter plate for the original transmission bell housing and a clutch shaft of your choice. Thus, the gearbox can be screwed plug and play to many common engines. The bell housing is not included in the price. If you have an old gearbox, the bell can be taken over. Otherwise we can deliver a suitable bell housing on request. Many different flanges are also available at the gearbox output. Since the length of the gearbox is usually different from the original, the length of the cardan shaft must be adjusted for installation. On request, we will be happy to deliver custom-made aluminum or carbon cardan shafts.

Almost 90 different gear ratios are available for the RWD-H gearboxes. So it is not possible to find the best translation based on gut feeling. We have developed a transmission simulation tool to design the optimal gear ratio. In a simple variant, create plots of speeds, axis torques, accelerations and much more for every possible translation. We also calculate the optimal gear shift speeds depending on the gear ratio and gear. This enables us to calculate and deliver the optimal translation for the fastest sprint and lap times.

In order to fully exploit the advantages of an H-Shift Dogbox transmission, we recommend a freely programmable control unit from MoTeC or Link ECU. We program this so that the ignition and / or injection is interrupted when switching. This enables upshifting under constant full throttle, without using the clutch. Downshifting with automatic double-declutching is also possible. With the correct design of the drive train, even without coupling.

If you are already using a freely programmable control device with Gearcut function, we will coordinate this accordingly. If you do not yet have a suitable control unit, we will be happy to advise you on the different variants and options of MoTec and Link ECU control units. Simply contact us for this. We also carry out motorsport cabling according to Mil specifications and coordination on our high Dynapack dynamometer in-house.

Number of gears:

The RWD-H is available as a 4, 5 and 6-speed version. The outer housing is the same for all variants, only the number of gear pairs inside is varied.

Gear lever:

We recommend using the matching H-Shift lever. This is optimally matched to the RWD-H. The normal gear lever is CNC milled. A gear lever with a contemporary design is available for historic vehicles.
